Ypres

The city of Ieper (Ypres) is easy to reach. Shopping and wandering on the Market Place is a true delight.

Ieper really is a paradise!

Cultural attractions:

  • Flanders Fields Museum
This War Museum is located in one of the most beautiful buildings of Ieper, the Ypres Cloth Hall (Lakenhallen). The First World War is central to the Flanders Fields Museum. You will discover a lot about this black page in history by means of audiovisual stories, pictures, objects and diaries.

  • Ypres Cloth Hall (Lakenhallen)
This gothic building was originally built between 13th and 14th century. In the past, its main function was linen trade, now you can visit it as a museum. It is possible to climb the 70m high belfry tower in combination with a visit to the Flanders Fields Museum.

  • Menin Gate
This giant gate is a Memorial to the missing British soldiers who died at the place during the First World War. Their 54,000 names are engraved on the panels. Every evening, at 8 pm, a nice little ceremony (the Last Post) takes place beneath this Monument.

  • Bellewaerde Theme Park
The City of Ieper has been successful in linking a theme park with a zoo. As the park opened its doors in 1954, you could only enjoy a collection of exotic birds and a few goblins. Nowadays tourists can enjoy plenty of rides with strange-souding names as Hurican, El Toro, Boomerang and the waterride River Splash. Besides these spectacular rides, there is also much to do for the smaller children.
